I — Melrose Avenue

A red door, and the smell of Sunday.

Osteria Mamma has cooked the Veneto on this corner since March 2010 — pasta rolled in the kitchen, San Marzano tomatoes, Parmigiano Reggiano DOP, and a wall of wine that runs from the counter to the ceiling.

Everything travels. Order it to your table, or to your door.

III — Our story

It begins with Mamma Loredana.

Mamma believed you should never underestimate the power of a home-cooked Italian meal. After many years of work in her kitchen in Italy, she brought her original recipes to Southern California, and in March 2010 — with the help of her family — opened a traditional osteria on Melrose.

Mamma Loredana is no longer with us. Her traditions, and her recipes, are still what leaves the kitchen: the true taste of the Veneto, cooked the way she cooked it.

From the moment you walk in, you're part of our family.

IV — The wall

Every bottle is chosen by hand.

The wall behind the bar is the room's centre of gravity — and it is not decoration. It is a working list, kept by a certified sommelier, and it has been recognised by Wine Spectator seven years running.

Walk in from Melrose and keep going.

Arched openings, dark timber, white cloth, and the wall of bottles glowing at the far end. It is a small room, and that is the point — you eat close to other people, the way you would at home.
